Seabird Consultants is established by Captain Peter Bird in August 1983 who has sixty years of working experience in the marine industry, including being in command, with over fifty years being spent in South East Asia, based In Singapore and over thirty years surveying pleasure craft.
and has carried out various assignments for insurance companies and/or brokers, in Europe, Australia, the United States and various countries in Southeast Asia. These have included lightning strikes, collisions, groundings, and other damages. He had also carried out numerous General Condition Surveys and Valuations for owners under the instructions of their insurers.
Since forming Seabird Consultants, have conducted numerous surveys on high-value cargoes, during transshipment operations, including container transportation. Also General Condition and On Hire/Off Hire surveys for Owners and Charterers. Clients include major oil companies as well as respected overseas shipping companies.
In addition to general commercial surveys, have been appointed by Owners, Underwriters, and Banks to conduct surveys on both power and sailing yachts. Work has been conducted on craft with values from as little as US$20,000 to as high as US$31,000,000. Appointments on behalf of such parties have covered damages, re-fits, general condition surveys, valuations, and warranty work.
During the past two years, over sixty such surveys have been undertaken. Reports are accepted not only in the Local insurance market but also at Lloyd’s and in the European, U.S. and Australian markets.
Retained by Grand Banks Yachts (builders of Grand Banks, Eastbay Heritage & Aleutian) as their consultant during pre-delivery trials of their larger high-speed motor yachts. This involved 23 yachts during the period July 2004 to February 2006, with sizes ranging from 42 feet to 70 feet. More recently performing the duties of owners’ superintendent, during the construction of two Heritage 54 motor yacht’s
As a Consultant, called upon by numerous lawyers, both local and offshore, to give Opinions on maritime matters, and frequently called to the Supreme Court in Singapore, as an Expert Witness, on marine and marine-related matters. Overseas lawyers include clients in London, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, and Hong Kong.
Have been called upon by the Attorney General’s Chambers, Civil Litigation Unit in Hong Kong, to give an Expert Opinion on a major maritime incident.
Appointed as Arbitrator, both joint and sole, on marine disputes, including matters relating to vessel construction, Charter Parties involving lay days/demurrage claims, speed & consumption disputes and yacht repair claims.
